IT’S not every night that you can say you spent time with Marilyn Monroe, Princess Diana, Miss Havisham and Queen Victoria…but not every night is like one spent with Thick & Tight!

Thick & Tight are Eleanor Perry and Daniel Hay-Gordon, the British based dance theatre duo, creating avant-garde shows using dance, lip-syncing, text, film, design and acting to present characters who collide on the dance floor.

A Night With Thick & Tight - which comes to the Wilton's Music Hall on July 23 - is their new rapturous triple-bill that brings some famous and legendary faces to life to reveal the yearnings and imperfections of human nature.

Queen Have & Miss Haven’t is a monstrous modernist ballet in which Queen Victoria and Miss Havisham, the jilted and vengeful bride from Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, mourn their respective losses, set to Olivier Messiaen's lavish Turangalila Symphony.

The Princess & The Showgirl finds Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana bound together by their mysterious deaths, dogged by fame and beauty, finding solace in each other.

It also includes guest appearances by Camilla Parker-Bowles and Michael Jackson, among others.

Finally, Radical Daughters sees dancer Julie Cunningham embody the lives of Claude Cahun and Marcel Moore – artists, step-sisters and lovers who risked their lives in anti-Nazi resistance. Music is by German krautrock band Neu!

Founded in the rigour of ballet and contemporary techniques, Thick & Tight’s work is exuberantly theatrical and eccentric, aiming to plumb the depths of human experience to entertain and move.

The work extends from dance/theatre to cabaret, gallery and festival audiences, frequently sitting within a queer context.

This triple bill springs from Thick & Tight’s ongoing exploration into the idea of ‘queerness in dance’ and its relevance for non-dance/LGBTQ+ audiences.

Praise for Thick & Tight:

“Calculatedly grotesque, but again, points to a melancholy truth about the human condition and human endeavour... appallingly entertaining” **** The Observer

“Clever, naughty, innovative and punchy...the imaginative landscapes that Perry and Hay-Gordon delve into for their inspiration is utterly impressive" London Dance

"Radical, sensitive and surely ahead of its time"

Alongside the live work, Thick & Tight are also creating a public blog centring on the question: What is queer performance within modern dance culture?

Collaborators, colleagues, friends and audiences can feed into the blog, which will collate a range of thought on queer performance, calling on historical and current queer art/politics within dance, and forms such as drag and cabaret.

The aim is to shine a light on the wider context of dance as a vehicle to explore vital queer stories and shifts in current politics, while also aiming to challenge conventions in contemporary dance.
